1923 Cadillac 7-Passenger Touring, Type 61, V-8, 4-door, Vehicle ID #: 61-Z-662, Original Condition, 4500 LBS., 132 inch Wheel Base, Daddy (Albert Ketchum) passed away in 2009, so with much sadness, we (my sister, brother and I) are selling Daddy's Cadillac. We love it, but now is the season we must say goodbye, and let someone else enjoy making memories to cherish. Although Daddy could usually only afford one old car at a time, he owned antique automobiles throughout his lifetime. This Cadillac was his favorite!, This car is in original (unrestored) condition, and has always been kept in a garage. Since his death it has been stored in a secure Morton equipment building with a concrete floor. We have driven it every so often, and changed the oil regularly to keep the Cadillac healthy ... it starts and runs perfectly! Daddy was a vintage car expert and a master mechanic who took excellent care of his Cadillac. He restored other antique automobiles to mint condition, but his Cadillac ... his baby, he wanted to keep it original! The following documentation is included with the car: original booklet with details of construction, original Cadillac operator's manual, Shop Manual which includes lubrication instruction, diagnosis, adjustment and repair, and also a copy of the original lubrication chart. The Cadillac features a factory air compressor for flat tire repair, an eight-day windup clock, a hand powered windshield wiper, and folding jump seats. It was fitted with a new set of "old" tires not long before Daddy's death. This Cadillac is one of a kind in it's original condition!, Daddy purchased the car on March 5, 1995; it had 12,223 original miles on it. He and our dear Mama (Elizabeth) drove the car 6000 miles before her death two years later. Daddy continued driving the Cadillac, putting an additional 13,177 miles on it before his death, bringing the total car mileage to 31,400. He drove it to car shows, winning many trophies for its original condition. He would drive it anywhere he wanted to go; including to my home in Indiana, which was a 540 mile round trip (six hours each way); not one problem ... it drove like a top!, Daddy researched the complete history of the life of his Cadillac, (we have the notes and documentation) back to when it was originally shipped to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on October 6, 1922. It has quite a history! We have all the previous owners names and dates of purchase. Daddy discovered the original owner's name (R.H. Ingram) under the right front step plate of the running board. Ingram was a member of the "Anti-Horse Thief Association" in Dewey, Oklahoma. Another one of the Cadillac's owner was Howard R. McHenry who owned it from April 3, 1962 until September 5, 1990. McHenry was one of the original members of the Ararat Rockets Jazz Band of Kansas City, Missouri. This was a jazz band consisting of business and professional people who celebrated 30 years as an organized musical group in September 1990. The band was an ambassador for the Ararat Shrine Temple in Kansas City and perpetuated the Kansas City style of music prevalent in the 1920's and 1930's. This Cadillac was the band's "Mascot" and was pictured on the front cover of their record albums. Their musical credits comprised of five record albums, including "Dixieland Jazz", an album that was recorded "live" during their April 1967 benefit concert in Zurich, Switzerland. In January 1990, they produced a special record album titled, "MEMORIES ... All That JAZZ", a collection that highlighted their best years; and the record album begins with the unique and nostalgic sound of the renowned Cadillac's engine starting up. Two of these record albums go with the purchase of the car. The Cadillac was in numerous newspaper articles during it's 28 years as a "Mascot"; and many times thereafter. This "special" 1923 Cadillac has always been in the limelight!, The Cadillac toured from coast to coast with the jazz band. In a letter Howard McHenry wrote to Daddy, he stated, "The 1923 Cadillac has participated in parades in New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Des Moines, Denver, Kansas City, Little Rock, Miami, Oklahoma City, Omaha, St. Louis, San Francisco, Tulsa, Wichita ... just to name a few. On most occasions we shipped her by closed train cars or trucks. She always stole the show when on display. The ROCKETS Dixieland Band would be pleased to know that a kind, knowledgeable person would own the old Cadillac, an individual who would take care of her and would provide her the attention she deserves. The 1923 Cadillac is truly a grand lady!", $58,500 negotiable
