This nicely restored 1955 Ford Thunderbird is a very correct example with a few minor alternations as a nod to modern convenience -- notably the addition of underdash a/c. The car saw a frame-up restoration in 2001 but has been driven sparingly (only 5,000 miles) since. It has held up remarkably well and still feels fresh; paint quality is excellent with no cracks or rust bubbles. Bumpers, grille, chrome, hubcaps and trim are excellent with no hazing or pitting; glass, rubbers, and black canvas top are excellent. Door panels, seat upholstery, carpet and dash were all restored along with the car and show virtually no wear. All switches, lights, indicators and gauges are working with the exception of the clock; the factory mechanical tachometer works, but squeaks a bit so it has been disconnected. The radio was updated some time ago with a two-post cassette; the dash has not been cut. Under the hood is 292 cubic inch Y-block V8 four-barrel mated to a three speed manual transmission; the cooling system has been upgraded with a larger radiator and fan to properly cool the a/c condenser. We have traced the ownership history back 35 years and we believe the mileage to be original; the car starts, runs and drives beautifully -- and is quite comfortable thanks to cold a/c. The car has all new brake components and many new suspension components; it's wearing newer whitewall radial tires. We have a folder full of photos and receipts documenting the restoration.
