Mopar guys you know what you like: big block power E-body looks and a shift-it-yourself transmission all covered in a bad attitude. This 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T delivers plenty of everything with a built 440 pistol-grip 4-speed and a period look with a bit of a twist. A lot of this Challenger's appeal is under the skin where it really is a bare-knuckles street fighter but it sure is pretty to look at too. B5 Blue always looks best on Chrysler's pony cars particularly the Challenger where it looks both fast and highly polished. The jury's out on whether the Challenger or the 'Cuda is the better-looking car but there's no denying that showing up in this slick R/T will generate a ton of attention. The bodywork is nicely finished showing off the crease running along its flanks to great effect the result of a lot of careful sanding work before the paint went on. Fit and finish are par for the course on any vintage Mopar muscle and they did their homework on the stripes which were laid down well and really complete the look. It's been driven so it's not flawless but you'll have a hard time resisting this car and the call of the open road just like the last guy. A satin black Go-Wing on the trunk and a matching black vinyl top work great with the bright blue paint and all the chrome is in fantastic shape the result of a recent trip to the chrome shop. Your first glance inside and you'll likely spot those bright blue Simpson harnesses which are a good tipoff as to this car's performance potential. The seats are factory-issue with recent reproduction seat covers flanking a stock center console but the truth is nobody was doing better interiors than Chrysler in 1971. Factory Rallye gauges give you a pretty comprehensive look at the engine but for accuracy's sake it carries an Auto Meter tach and a trio of auxiliary gauges under the dash. An AM/FM/CD stereo head unit replaces the ancient Music Master AM unit and with matching blue R/T floor mats you know they didn't overlook any of the details. Of course things like the pistol-grip shifter and factory Tuff Wheel should be standard equipment in any muscular Mopar simply because they look awesome. The trunk is full of more performance gear including a fuel cell and a metal battery enclosure so you know they were serious about performance. You can see just how serious just by popping the hood where you'll find a built 440 cubic inch V8. Topped by a big Holley carburetor polished aluminum intake and gorgeous Mopar Performance finned aluminum valve covers it's as fast as it is good looking. The block and heads were powdercoated to match the body so they'll look this good practically forever and just about everything else was either polished or plated. There's a big aluminum radiator up front with an electric fan and long-tube headers dumping into a Flowmaster dual exhaust system. A stock 8.75-inch rear end hangs out back and there are drilled and slotted Wilwood disc brakes at all four corners making this one as good at stopping as it is at going. Gorgeous Coys alloys wear staggered 235/40/18 front and 275/35/20 rear performance radials that look exactly right. Beautiful and fast this is the Challenger every guy wishes he could own.
