Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale WITHOUT RESERVE and SOLD to the highest bidder, August 16th- 18th, 2012 at Russo and Steele's 12th Annual Monterey California Auction. Please contact us for more information., This 1972 Volvo 1800-E is one of only 1872 produced in 1972, the last year of production. Several details are unique only to the 1972. This car has too many new parts to list here, but some highlights include almost all weatherstrips are new, OE replacement interior dash pads, front seats reupholstered in vinyl instead of original leather, plus added sound deadener under the carpeting., The OE used air conditioner installed and converted to R134. Engine and drive train are from a running 1971 wreck that I parted out. No records of previous work to the engine were available. The engine runs fine on regular gas so some previous work may have been done to lower the compression ratio. 1971 engines were 130 hp, while the 1972 engines were 112 hp. The transmission and drive train were heavier duty to accommodate the more powerful engine. The speedometer has been overhauled and a new cable installed. No rust issues were discovered on initial disassembly, and the car is solid. Car performed well on a 1000 mile trip to Malibu to a Volvo meet., The car has been restored as a street driver and is meant to be used. OE parts were used to the extent available throughout the 15 years it took to complete. There are only a couple things that need attention. The heater valve was leaking after the car was made operational which requires the removal and splitting of the heater unit to repair the valve, so a manual bypass valve has been installed. Some shop rash including a small dent at the left rear taillight area occurred over the years. My background was as a 50 year Volvo mechanic and shop owner, and is my last restoration. I have owned many other Volvo's and vintage raced a 1968 P1800 successfully all over the U.S. up until six years ago., Auction
