Buick was building a reputation with the Dynaflash Eight. The powerful inline eight cylinder motor boasted 141 horsepower, more than enough power to propel Buick's largest sedans past highway speed limits. The Century was on of Buick's premium models powered by this legendary engine. It was conceived as a car that was capable of reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Even the name "Century" was English shorthand for a 100 mile journey. Visionary designer Harley Earl was instrumental in the Century's design. He proposed a bevy of deluxe features inspired by his favorite Cadillac elements: hydraulic brakes, plush upholstery, Art Deco chrome trim styling, and a modern streamlined body. The Buick Century had set a new standard in value, features, and performance. The Century showcased here is an impressive example that has enjoyed a recent restoration. The doors open wide to an expansive interior. The twill upholstered seats and broadcloth headliner look virtually untouched. The wide dash is beautifully finished with wood grain pattern enamel. The paint is in very good condition, and the chrome shows in good to very good condition, with only slight speckling around the top grille slats. Engine compartment and undercarriage are excellent and consistent with the fit and finish of the body. This is an excellent late 30's cruising car ideal for extended excursions and real-world highway performance. For those that missed the 1938 Century we sold just recently, this one is even better - so don't miss it this time! Youtube video available upon request.
