This 1968 Mercury Cougar is no ordinary XR7. Restored in 2005, this 68 has had a complete makeover. Professionally restored to a performance resto-mod, the car was originally a 302-2V, C4 automatic with 3.00 axle ratio, Nugget Gold metallic with a black vinyl roof. The car was built in Dearborn MI and shipped to the Atlanta district. The car ended up in the Poconos of PA where it was completely restored from the ground up from 05-06. The car was completely disassembled right down to removing all the drive train components, bumpers, fenders, doors, hood and rear deck lid. The trim was also removed, as well as the emblems and stainless trim and rested to show quality standards. The updated drive train consisted of a new Ford performance racing 302 Edelbrock alum heads, 2.02 stainless steel intake valves and 1.60" stainless steel exhaust valves, Ford hydraulic roller camshaft which provides significant horsepower increasing above 2500RPM rated at 350hp, swirl polished valves, bronze valve guides with hardened valve seats for todays fuel. 9.1 to1 compression gives this performance engine all the power you'll need. Edelbrock alum intake with Edelbrock 650CFM carb, ceramic coated heads MSD dist., with electronic ignition. MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor spark plug wires, Ford racing Billet valve covers and air cleaner element. Factory AC converted to R-134A, rack-in-pinion steering with KRC total control PS with power steering reservoir, 6 blade fan, re cored 3 core Ford style radiator, HD 60 amp alternator. The car also has orig. style date coded Fomoco radiator and heater hoses, chrome oil dipstick, auto light battery topper. The engine runs extremely well, rated at 350hp, this car has a nicely tuned sound with headers and dual Flow Master mufflers. The C4-automatic trans was swapped out for a new Temic T-5 Super Duty trans., ram clutch set up, with roller pilot bearing, small block Ford steel fly wheel. High torque mini starter, 8 inch Ford Posi 28 spline axle with 4.33 gears, 4 wheel PDB, power slot rotors, braided brake lines, HD 1" front and 3/4" rear sway bars, and Ford gas adjustable shocks. The underside of the XR-7 is completely detailed. The floor pans have a light dealer installed under coat with no signs of any visible rust. Solid orig. torque boxes, complete new front end components include ball joints, sway bar links, springs restored in black satin restoration paint. Spotless undercarriage. The exterior finish has a high quality showroom finish repainted in 2005 using 2 stage base coat clear coat PPG paint system. Super straight body, proper alignment to the body panels. Beautiful high quality chrome trim, full tinted original glass, replacement tibted windshield, hideaway headlights are in excellent working condition. The chrome on the front grille has a brilliant appearance. The black vinyl top looks like new. No rust issues under the vinyl or in the rear sections under the back window. New side marker lights, sequential tail lights work fine. Chrome bezels are also in fantastic condition. Attractive restored looking interior, the black upgraded leather buckets with console and restored headrests has that classic look. The quartz clock works. Chrome Hurst shifter with 5 spd. black shift knob, light group, custom elite GT cushion grip sport steering wheel with tilt, sport instrumentation with tach (inoperative), and gauges, new carpet, door panels, complete new weather strip kit, sill plates, door hardware, new heater core and heater control valve. Factory seat belts, custom am/fm CD disc player with dual rear speakers. Dash pad is in excellent condition with no cracks. Overall, this car's interior is stunning, comfortable with no wear or tear. The cars appearance with the 17" Boyd Coddington Billet 5 spoke wheels mounted on P215/50 R17" gives this car attitude. The orig. Magnum style 14" wheels mounted on the WSW bias ply tires are included with the car. Aside from the way this car looks, another attribute is the way it performs and handles. Drives beautifully and stops on a dime. Comes with a complete list of the work done, receipts of the restoration, (over $60k invested). This fine example has all the updates and ready to go! As we say, buy it done...these cars are very expensive to restore. Investment quality. Look no more! Here is your summer ride! Price: $32,500
