You know we love early Camaros and this 1968 SS396 packages everything on your wish list in a slick Corvette Bronze package. That's an L34 under the hood with 350 horsepower so it doesn't just talk big it delivers. A glance at the cowl tag will verify that this one wore code 0 Corvette Bronze when it left the Los Angeles factory back in 1968. The top has been switched from white to black but nobody will argue that was a bad decision because the car just looks phenomenal today. The cosmetic restoration was finished a few years ago so it isn't perfect but someone has obviously kept after it and spent their Saturday afternoons keeping it at its best. The paint looks awesome and this is a color you don't see all that often making this Camaro stand out in a crowded field. It carries an original hood with chrome inserts ducktail spoiler and proper SS badging but no stripes so it has a purposeful look that doesn't need to advertise. The vinyl top is in excellent condition and shows no signs of problems underneath and the chrome bumpers and stainless trim has the right shine to look great against the bronze finish. If you like your Camaros a little unusual this is an awesome choice. Black buckets replace the original code 711 black and white setup but keep the upscale upholstery patterns that differentiate this car from those that carry standard seats. The result is an interior that's more inviting than your usual Camaro and when combined with a new woodgrained steering wheel center console and fresh door panels it's a place you'll want to spend plenty of time. The original gauges are still in place behind that big tach on the steering column along with factory console-mounted auxiliary gauges that are one of the Camaro's best features. The original AM radio is still in the dash suggesting that this car has led an easy life where it wasn't hacked up and modified over the years and the relative lack of options means that the money was spent where it matters: under the hood. A Hurst Competition Plus shifter links you to the 4-speed manual gearbox while the nicely finished trunk carries a reproduction mat that fits rather well. The L34 396 cubic inch V8 was rated at 350 horsepower and one glance at the highly detailed engine bay leaves no doubt as to where the money went. Beautifully finished with correct Chevy Orange paint bright chrome tinwork and a satin black background it looks fantastic and runs even better. There's new equipment everywhere you look from the power brake booster and master cylinder (linked to Wilwood front disc brakes) to the alternator and Holley 4-barrel carburetor. An electronic ignition system provides near-instant starting and a smooth idle and Hedman long-tube headers and a new exhaust system manage the fumes. The Muncie 4-speed is linked to a 12-bolt rear end with a 3.73 gear set on a Posi-Traction limited slip and with all that horsepower on tap those traction bars and subframe connectors are probably a good idea. Correct Rally wheels are fitted so it keeps a pretty stock look and with 215/70/15 front and 235/70/15 rear BFG radials there's just a bit of a rake to make it sit right. Beautifully finished and extremely fast this is the Camaro that does everything well. If you've been looking for a top-quality driver with an unusual look perhaps this is your car. Call today!
