All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance. Simply put, this is one of the rarest and nicest Chevelles you will find. It is a genuine 1970 SS L78 car, of which only 2,144 were produced (by comparison there were almost 4,500 LS6 cars). Even more rare is its special order paint with stripe delete, backed up with documentation including two build sheets and a blank paint code on the cowl tag. It has many desirable options including cowl induction and a 4.10 Positraction rear end. It is the only one of its kind, and it is of exceptional quality throughout. The L78 SS396 was produced for only a short time in the 1970 model year. This is the year Chevrolet introduced the 454 cubic inch motor, first offered in the Chevelle as the 360 hp LS5 option. However, despite its larger displacement, it was outgunned by the solid-lifter L78 with its 396 cubic inches and 375 hp. This was a limited production offering for the 1970 model year, and was discontinued with the introduction of the LS6 in December of 1969. This is a real L78 Chevelle, as supported by the build sheets calling out the "KO" engine code and L78 option. It was built at the Van Nuys, CA plant and delivered to Guaranty Chevrolet in California (note all the smog equipment still present on the engine). The original owner, Mr. Fleming of Lynwood, CA, purchased the car on December 30, 1969. Documentation shows the short block was replaced by Guaranty Chevrolet on April 4, 1970 at 3,616 miles. The motor was fully rebuilt in 2007 with hardened valve seats for compatibility with unleaded gas. It was dyno tested at over 400 horsepower (video available). The motor is backed by the rebuilt Muncie M21 4-speed transmission and 12-bolt rear. The F41 suspension is present as well. This Chevelle appears to have has all its original sheetmetal, and shows no signs of rust issues or repairs anywhere in its lifetime. It presently shows 76,170 miles. It was special ordered in a 1969 color of Hugger Orange and with the SS stripes deleted, both of which are called out on the build sheets. Because of this, it did not match any 1970 factory colors, so the paint code on the cowl / trim tag is blank - very rare! Also, if you know your Chevelles, then you'll recognize 1969 Hugger Orange as a special color, being available only on SS models. This car was beautifully repainted in 2004, during which all trim components, etc. were removed to ensure a high quality result. The interior is in wonderful condition. The bench seat, carpet, headliner, and door panels all look fantastic. So do the steering wheel and Muncie shifter. Note despite being a high-revving big block with 4-speed, this car did NOT have a tachometer from the factory. The car is mechanically excellent throughout, and runs and drives accordingly. This Chevelle has been with the same owner for the last ten years, where it has been kept under a cover in its own heated 2-stall garage. It has won a myriad of awards and trophies, and rightly so. Inspections are welcome and encouraged as this car should be seen in person for full appreciation of its quality. When you couple this with its incredible documented rarity, you realize just what a unique opportunity this presents. Price: $92,500
