For many years Mercedes-Benz had been known for its expensive technically sophisticated fast and beautiful sports cars like the SSK and 540K. After the Second World War attention first turned to the highly advanced 300SLR and its comparatively more affordable but still extremely expensive derivative the 300SL Gullwing Coupe. At the same time however Mercedes realized that a large market was developing for less costly and more user-friendly sports cars. Mercedes deftly responded with the 190SL. Retaining many of the 300SL’s styling cues it combined 4-wheel independent suspension a single overhead camshaft engine with two dual throat carburetors and unit body construction into a comfortable nimble two-seater sports car. The impeccable styling and commendable build quality of these cars have made them quite popular with collectors in recent years and this 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL is a beautifully restored example that presents extremely well. It is finished in dark blue and has a tan top tan top boot color coded hubcaps with trim rings radial wide whitewall tires wing mirrors tan interior with new correct tan German square weave carpets. The chrome and interior are exceptional the rubber is all new and the engine compartment is both highly detailed and correct featuring the correct Solex carburetors and even the proper type of hose clamps and fuel lines. Any Mercedes SL is desirable but this is a particularly strong 190SL an increasingly popular model properly restored gorgeous and a very collectible car. Price: $167,500
