This 1971 Corvette convertible hits all the high notes: a matching-numbers LS5 big block 4-speed transmission factory A/C and gorgeous Ontario Orange paint. While the early Stingrays with 427s get all the attention if you're looking for a great-running 'Vette with a ton of power that doesn't foul its plugs in traffic the LS5 is a much better choice. The body on this Stingray was expertly refinished and given its provenance it should be no surprise that it's rated as a #1 to #2 car by the NCRS judges. There are few cars that will attract more attention than a C3 with bright orange paint and definitely none that are more widely recognized. Roll up in this fantastic plastic and EVERYBODY notices. Of course it doesn't hurt that the bodywork is super straight with excellent prep over well-preserved original fiberglass that has never been damaged. Corvette fans are sticklers when it comes to doing it as the factory would have so you'll appreciate the soft shine of the paint which isn't too glossy like modern base/clear urethane but more like the original enamel. Gaps are about as good as you can get on a C3 which again is a good thing for purists and most fans prefer the chrome bumpers. And speaking of brightwork the hood features a pair of chrome-rimmed nostrils as well as a 454 badge all the Stingray script emblems are in place and the stainless rocker moldings have been polished to a high shine. Good luck finding one nicer than this! This car's fastidious care throughout its life is most evident inside where black interior remains in excellent condition. Treated to the same high-quality workmanship that's evident throughout the car it's a very accurate representation of what you would have received from the dealer in 1971. It's not perfect but pretty darned close exactly the way you'd want such a pedigreed big block 'Vette to look. There are no split seams no scuffs and certainly no sun damage despite the open air of the convertible top. The black carpets are similarly excellent and the door panels match the seats with their factory fresh appearance. Other goodies include factory A/C a tilt/telescope steering column the original AM/FM radio and those cool fiber-optic bulb indicators in the console. Overhead there's a black convertible top that fits right and the car includes a rather rare removable hardtop one of only 2619 made in '71. This Corvette is all about having your cake and eating it too. This car will also eat lesser machines for lunch thanks to the original numbers-matching LS5 big block under the hood. With a very stout 365 horsepower it's the smart choice for the guy who likes to drive his Corvette. Reliable and virtually indestructible the LS5's wide torque band makes it the ideal powerplant for long-distance cruising and its street-friendly nature is what makes A/C possible (the system was overhauled in 2011). Nicely detailed with Chevy Orange paint on the block the original air cleaner with chrome lid and fresh plugs wires and hoses it's ready to rumble. Almost everything you can see is new including the battery starter water pump brakes rebuilt carburetor and clutch. The bulletproof 4-speed is the perfect dance partner and you'll love blipping the throttle between gears once you hear the amazing chambered exhaust system. Correct Rally wheels wear recent 255/60/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials. Documented loaded with options and fully sorted this Corvette roadster is just begging for a long road trip this summer perhaps to Bloomington Gold where it's definitely going to attract attention.
