This unusual 1966 Mustang GT coupe is one of those rare jewels that came from a long options list effectively allowing you to build a unique car that was ideally suited to your tastes. Fortunately the guy ordering this beautifully restored A-code pony had great taste and served up one of the nicest early Mustangs we've featured in a long time. A Wimbledon White Mustang coupe is not so unusual but when was the last time you saw one with a black vinyl top? Or a GT coupe? Or both? That's what's so cool about cars like this is that a happy confluence of options has created something that stands out from the crowd. The good news is that it has been restored to a very high standard with excellent sheetmetal tight gaps and all the correct bits and pieces present and accounted for. The paint is a correct soft white that shines like new giving the car a sparkling look that seems to draw admirers from every walk of life. This is a real-deal GT which means the fog lights rocker panel stripes exhaust trumpets and GT emblems are correct and they've all been restored or replaced with exact reproductions. And that unusual vinyl top hugs the roof tightly and shows none of the expected problems underneath just a smooth profile and the correct long-grain material. How can you not love this car? The door tag says this car originally came with a black interior and while that's OK the current red interior is simply spectacular. Obviously with a color change everything is new from the carpet to the headliner and they stuck to the original crinkle vinyl and standard buckets in the interest of playing fair. That's a factory 4-speed transmission poking out of the transmission tunnel flanked by an original-style A/C unit under the dash. The gauges are simply too nice to be original showing clear lenses and bright markings and the Rally-Pac on the steering column which features a tach and clock is a welcome addition to any GT. Even the steering wheel is a beautiful piece that is show quality and matches the rest of the interior. A rather rare AM/8-track radio still lives in the dash and the trunk is highly detailed with a new mat and tire cover that fit quite well. All signs point to this being the car's original A-code 289 cubic inch V8 topped by a 4-barrel carburetor. The entire driveline was rebuilt about 500 miles ago so everything is very fresh with just test and tune miles. As a result it's an outstanding runner and the detailing under the hood looks showroom fresh. The big air cleaner wears reproduction decals and Ford Blue paint was a bright upgrade from the basic black used in '65. The big A/C compressor dominates the top of the engine bay but you'll note that details like the hose clamps and plug wires are authentic. The 4-speed manual and 8-inch rear with 3.00 gears inside were also rebuilt and detailed then reinstalled on the ultra-clean undercarriage. A new dual exhaust system looks and sounds right and with power steering and front disc brakes this is a car you could happily drive every day. Classic styled steel wheels with 205/70/14 redline radials give it a classic '60s performance vibe that works perfectly with the car's color combination. Complete with restoration photos this is a beautifully done Mustang that stays close to the factory specifications to create a car that will earn fans everywhere it goes. Call today!
