which combines a classic look with some subtle performance upgrades that make it drivable on modern roads (even in city traffic). This Model A is still running a Ford flathead four-cylinder -- but it's been tastefully up-dated with a 12-volt electrical system, electronic ignition, a high-compression head and a four-speed manual transmission. Aside from the tell-tale alternator under the hood, it still has a very stock look in the engine compartment. The electronic ignition components are hidden in the guts of a reproduction distributor that matches the appearance of the factory unit. The performance difference is substantial. This example starts on the first try, runs better and makes more power than any stock Model A I have ever driven. I've spent a few hours with it in Atlanta traffic and felt completely comfortable -- and with the four speed, you can easily cruise at 55 mph. This example was restored with the intent of having a car to drive and enjoy -- cosmetically, it is very good but not show quality. Panels are straight and solid with good gaps, hood and door fit-ment. Paint is nice driver quality in a tasteful navy blue with black fenders and running boards, blue-green window surrounds and light green pinstripes. Glass and trim are excellent. Period-appropriate turn signals have been added to the bumpers (see photos -- they are inconspicuous and add considerably to traffic safety). Wire wheels with whitewall tries are in great shape. No known rust issues anywhere on the car. The interior shows very well with new upholstery, carpet, door panels, headliner and rear win-dow shade. Hardware is in excellent condition and all windows and doors are working properly. The original factory gauges still work, as do the horn and vacuum windshield wiper. Period-appropriate voltage and temp gauges have been added to the steering column. In short, this car retains its vintage bona fides while being easy to drive and enjoy on a regular basis.
