Nice older restoration that was built for touring. Great-running V12 with overdrive, handsome interior, smooth highway cruiser. This handsome 1947 Continental convertible was restored to do just that, and thanks to a recent and extensive servicing, it"s a reliable, comfortable cruiser that seems immune to the usual foibles of the antique car hobby. No, the soft white color isn"t correct for 1947, so purists might want to look at some of our other offerings, but if you appreciate a good, straight body with fully-sorted mechanicals, this car is an absolute joy to own. Fortunately, the paint does have a suitably vintage look; it isn"t bright refrigerator white, but rather a softer off-white that looks right on the curvy Continental. It"s not a show piece, but it shines up nicely and looks great going down the road, and you certainly won"t have to hide it in the back row at local shows. The body doesn"t appear to have ever been rusty, and an examination of the undercarriage shows ancient undercoating but no evidence that the body has ever been off the frame, so it"s a good, solid car. All the chrome, which can be expensive to restore on a Continental, is quite good, a combination of freshened pieces and originals that are in excellent shape. Like the bodywork, the brown leather interior isn"t quite factory-correct, but it looks fantastic against the light bodywork and presents a familiar and traditional look. The pleated pattern on the seats is the way the factory did it and it shows very little wear and no split seams or tears in the leather, and the back seat may never have been used. The tan carpets are suitably plush for Lincoln"s top model, and are bound in matching tan vinyl to give it a finished look. A red plastic steering wheel is the Continental"s signature styling element inside, and it is in very good condition and quite possibly original, which speaks highly of this car"s care over the decades. The instrument panel is painted to match the body, so the interior feels bright and airy, even with the top up, and the gauges show clear lenses and bright markings, and they"re all functional save for the clock, which is typical. The power windows and top work just fine and the tan canvas itself is in very good condition. Mechanically, the 292 cubic inch V12 runs superbly, and this car recently finished a 1000-mile tour without incident. Lots of recent work ensures that this one is ready to tour, including a fresh fuel pump and rebuilt carburetor, new ignition components including plugs and wires, and a rebuilt generator. It"s backed by a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive, so it cruises easily at 65 MPH all day, and the ride is smooth and comfortable, exactly as you"d expect from a Lincoln. The chassis is undercoated, which helps control noise and heat, and aside from a single bit of work near one of the body mounts, there"s not much evidence that this has ever been a rusty car. A fresh exhaust system gives it the right tone, and handsome BFGoodrich Silvertown wide whitewall radials on the original steel wheels ride and handle superbly and retain the vintage look. Hailing from a massive collection where good road manners are highly prized, this is a well-sorted Continental that"s ready to go. For more information and photos, please visit .
