The best year for GTO performance in its original Cardinal Red color and carrying a big 455 cubic inch V8 all for under $25000? Yes you're reading all that correctly and yes this car is the real deal. Ready to enjoy and easy to add value over the winter this is a slam-dunk for the GTO lover on a budget. Cardinal Red has aged better than almost any other color on the GTO color chart looking modern and deep but absolutely right on the GTO's bodywork. Hood scoops Endura front bumper and a pair of wide taillights give it that pure Pontiac performance look but it's not over-dressed like a Judge. No without decals and spoilers the GTO becomes the gentlemen's express John DeLorean envisioned back in 1963. There's a GTO decal on the deck lid and a matched set on the front fenders but otherwise this is a low-profile piece of muscle and I like it. A black vinyl roof further adds to the sophisticated look and it's nicely fitted with no wrinkles or signs of trouble underneath. Nice! The red interior is 100 riginal and still looks fantastic today. The GTO has an upscale look inside just as it does outside with vinyl seats and textured inserts that are both comfortable and supportive. A center console is right for the GTO's image and performance and the engine-turned appliques were a Pontiac trademark for many years. The original instruments are assisted by a trio of auxiliary gauges under the dash in the usual fashion and the 43-year-old steering wheel is plain albeit in good condition. Sometime in the not-so-distant past someone thoughtfully installed an AM/FM/cassette stereo and it still sounds decent today. The back seat looks virtually untouched and due to its position back there it shows almost no fading or other signs of UV exposure. The spatter-finish trunk is solid and carries a full-sized spare and if you really want to make it right a replacement mat only costs a few bucks. Under the hood you will find a date code correct 1970 455CI Pontiac motor. With recent Pontiac Turquoise paint on the block chrome valve covers and an open-element air cleaner it has plenty of flash and looks fairly stock although the long-tube headers definitely help fatten up the torque curve. They're connected to a brand new Flowmaster exhaust system that ends under the rear bumper with correct quad tips that set this GTO apart from the more garden-variety Pontiacs that year. A heavy-duty TH400 3-speed automatic is required equipment behind the torquey 400-inch motor as is the 12-bolt rear end which means you'll never have to worry about breaking it as long as you keep street tires on it. As a largely original car the chassis isn't clean or detailed but it is solid and functional with no issues. And American Racing Torque Thrust wheels look as right on the Goat as they do anywhere else especially with fat 235/70/14 BFGoodrich radials. Lots of car not a lot of money. All the ingredients are here all it needs is an enthusiastic new owner ready to enjoy it. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom.
