Considered by many to be the most hardy of all series Rovers, there is no doubt that there is a huge following for these. The series I rover was introduced to market in 1949 with just one model offering. They were trying to compete with the US built Jeep. And like the Jeep became a very important piece of world history being used by the Military, municipalities, farmers and the general consumer. Soon the offerings of models and options were many including short and wheel base models. The Rover we are offering here is a very unique vehicle. First being used by the UK military as an ambulance and later imported by Rovers North. At that time the ambulance enclosure was removed and replaced with rear side window panels, tropical top and defender rear door. The engine and transmission are original and operate perfectly. The current owner has cared for this car the last 15 plus years and has added numerous upgrades including the much needed brake booster from Rovers North, the springs were replaced with Rocky Mountain parabolics, new front defender seats, anti burst door latches and locking front hubs. For safety, new front 3 point inertia safety belts and fittings were added as well as new General grabber tires. At that time a new Salisbury rear differential was added for ease of driving. Also accompanying this vehicle are the service manuals, extra misc. parts and the rare UK Military LOG and maintenance book. Although areas of original Military paint are evident, this vehicle at some point received a amateur re-paint and is not perfect. This is a great driver quality rover that is a hard-to-find body style. A Full service has just been completed including fluid changes including fuel system clean, brakes and lines, wheel cylinders and tune up.
