For decades Thunderbirds have been regarded as special cars to own. If you're just getting started in the hobby cars like this 1958 hardtop represent excellent choices; they're reliable powerful fun stylish and easy to service with plentiful parts availability. Ford added a back seat and lots of luxury to the T-Bird for its second generation but didn't forget that people bought these because they were all about style. The "Square Birds" as they're now called are gaining traction in the market and while this car isn't a show piece it's not expensive either. However for your money you're getting a super-straight and solid car that has lived its life in a warm dry climate so rust is obviously a non-issue. The bright red Grenadier Red paint looks fantastic and gives this hardtop a lot of eyeball appeal that accentuates the many interesting shapes and curves on the all-new '58 models. Fit and finish is above average with great gaps and the paint still shines up very nicely. Chrome and lots of it was a hallmark of the 1950s and the Thunderbird was no exception. Most of the trim appears original and in good condition on this car and a new owner could easily add a lot of value with just a little elbow grease on a Saturday afternoon. It's all there so just imagine it with a sparkling hand-rubbed finish against that brilliant red paint. The blue bucket seat interior is an interesting mix of original and updated materials and components but the basic goodness of the 4-seat 'Bird is undeniable. The door panels have been artfully re-created in the new materials but reproducing the original design which is dramatic as well as functional. Bucket seats with cloth inserts are all-day comfortable which is a good thing since this T-Bird eats up highway with effortless ease. The big white steering wheel seems to defy its age with minimal cracking and frames the brightly trimmed instrument panel full of original gauges. The refurbishing kind of gives away its age with the AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit in the dash but it still sounds good thanks to big speakers in the doors. And just have a look at that inviting back seat area with room for two in their own semi-buckets and a massive trunk that's ready for a cross-country cruise. The 352 cubic inch V8 was the base engine in 1958 a sizable jump over the 312 from '57 and it makes a nice round 300 horsepower so performance is more than adequate. That big white air cleaner is correct and looks great atop the Ford Blue engine and standard equipment included power steering so the bigger 'Bird isn't at all clumsy on the road. It's backed by a Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission and 3.10 gears in the 9-inch rear end so it's a great high-speed cruiser. It's original and quite solid underneath with no surprises waiting for a new owner and nothing hiding under a layer of undercoating so you can see just how honest this car really is. Flashy chrome wheels add a bit of high-fashion to the already attractive 'Bird and wear H76-14 whitewalls. This is a great deal of classic Thunderbird for not a lot of money and offers the ability to have fun in the garage without ever having to give up your time on the road. Call today!
