More proof that the Camaro is the most versatile muscle car of all time is this beautifully built 1969 hardtop. The look and the hardware underneath say "drag race only" but the fully finished interior suggests that maybe this one was meant to be a street predator instead. The stance and the look especially with that towering cowl induction hood is that of a full-race piece. You see cars like this coming off trailers with cackling 13:1 compression motors and you know nobody's driving them to the office on Monday. But then you look again and see how well finished it is and realize that no race car ever received the love that this one has. The bodywork is amazingly straight and clean beautifully rendered in Lemans Blue with black stripes buried under the clear. What's nice is that it hasn't been dressed up in fake SS gear or with RS headlights it's just a clean Camaro coupe that's been finished to a very high standard. Sure there's a ducktail spoiler out back but it's probably more functional here than on many others and the cars kind of look naked without them anyway. There's also plenty of chrome and stainless trim usually the first pieces to be tossed on a race car but here the bumpers are shiny the stainless has been polished and it even sports dual outside mirrors. The interior is really what sets this one apart from most race cars. Instead of fiberglass shells and a cage you get a full 1969 Camaro interior complete with black buckets a console with horseshoe shifter and enough sound deadening materials to make this car quite user-friendly. The seat covers carpets door panels and many of the other parts are new and it really doesn't deviate much from the original recipe. There are a smattering of Auto Meter white-faced gauges down on the console but the dashboard itself is quite stock. A little bit of woodgraining on the center console warms things up and there's a full back seat that's 100<eady to cruise with some buddies. Only the lack of a radio suggests there's more to this Camaro than meets the eye inside at least. Even the trunk is nicely finished with a reproduction mat that fits quite well. However the litmus test of the car's personality lives under the hood where there's a built 350 cubic inch small block that takes no prisoners. With aluminum Brodix heads an Edelbrock high-rise intake a rather serious camshaft and a 750 CFM Holley 4-barrel it makes enough horsepower to need those big tires. It's also got an electric water pump to scavenge a few extra ponies plus a big aluminum radiator up front for idling in line at the strip. The TH350 3-speed automatic has a full manual valve body and feeds a 10-bolt full of 3.73 gears to get it off the line in a hurry. The front suspension features tubular A-arms for light weight there are 4-wheel disc brakes for safety and the tub is augmented with subframe connectors. Long tube headers and Flowmaster mufflers provide the soundtrack and shiny Weld Pro-Star wheels with 26x6.00-15 front and 275/60/15 rear tires give it that classic drag race stance. This is an outrageously nice Camaro that needs only a gentle push in either direction to become a fantastic street car or a full-blown track terror. The direction it takes is entirely up to you.
