Although resembling the Model T a little, the all-new Model A was much different. It incorporated a sliding gear transmission, which was a first for Ford. It also included fours wheel brakes, a larger engine that doubled the T's horsepower and adopted pumped-water cooling. Ford offered a large variety of the Model A's and they were also starting to introduce light commercial vehicles, which included closed cab pickups, panel delivery trucks, both standard and deluxe, town car delivery trucks and debuting in 1930, the almost unknown Special Delivery, Style 255-A which is offered here today. It was the front -cab of the Model A using a Wood constructed back portion. This particular Special Delivery was assembled and restored by famed Woody restorer Mike Nickels in 2003. Mike and the owner used the Ford Plans from the Benson Research Center at the Henry Ford Museum to make sure that this Woody was reconstructed to fine detail. The owner also wanted this particular vehicle to be used and had a bench seat installed in the back and the side panels made so they could easily be removed. He also had side curtains made for the entire vehicle. Although very presentable the way it sits, the owner enjoyed this vehicle quite a bit after restoration and does show signs of worn and cracked paint in spots. The engine was rebuilt last year as well as the gas tank re-lined. If you are looking for a well sorted, great driver quality very rare Model A than do not miss this opportunity.
