1939 Ford Deluxe Tudor Sedan VIN: 185161773 Judged the best-preserved '39 Ford in the country Original paint, interior, engine, transmission Three Category Rouge winner This original Deluxe Tudor was acquired by the Jack Hogan collection in late 1990's from collector car dealer Matthews Motors, having been previously owned for many years by Dale Proudfoot, a well known early Ford collector. While in Proudfoot's possession it was judged the best-preserved '39 Ford in the country. Dave Schroeder from Oregon purchased the car in 2007 with the odometer displaying 71,151 original miles. Since then it has covered less than 1500 miles, and has been maintained in exceptional condition. The Deluxe Tudor has its original engine and running gear along with its original Cloud Mist grey paint, its original beige cloth interior, and is equipped with dual wipers, banjo spoke steering wheel, clock, locking gas cap, stainless steel spider wheel covers with beauty rings and hubcaps, wide whitewalls and dual side mirrors. It has been judged by the experts in the Early Ford V-8 Club as a Three Category Rouge winner for uncompromised originality at the meet in Pismo Beach. Its condition is quite remarkable, showing only a slight patina on the exterior and interior. Consistently maintained throughout the last generation of its life by some of the most dedicated and knowledgeable Ford V-8 enthusiasts, it is not surprising that the Deluxe Tudor has been continuously celebrated for its originality and condition. About the 1939 Ford Deluxe Tudor Ford built 144,333 Deluxe Tudor sedans in 1939. It was sign of the times, and the improving American economy working its way out of the Depression, that this luxury model sold appreciably more (by roughly 20,000 units) than the entry level Standard Tudor, and even more than all the Fordors built in 1939, Standard and Deluxe combined. For 1939 the Ford Deluxe once again had a new frontal design distinguished by a new, lower grille that sat firmly between redesigned front fenders which now positioned the covered headlights father apart and in the very front of the fenders for better, broader illumination of the road, a factor that was becoming even more important now that sealed beam headlights, some 50orighter and much more reliable than the earlier separate bulb and reflector headlight assemblies, were standard. Hydraulic brakes were the most important development for the 1939 Fords, finally catching up with the rest of the automobile industry. The 85hp engine in the Deluxe employed a technique perfected on the 1938 Lincoln Zephyrs, mounting the cooling fan low on the crankshaft where it could efficiently pull air through the new lower grille opening. 1939 was an important year in American and Ford history. Two World's Fairs were held, one on Treasure Island in San Francisco marking, among other things, the completion of the Bay Bridge, and the other in New York' Flushing Meadows. Ford marked the occasion by displaying its 27 millionth car, suitably its most popular model, the Deluxe Tudor Sedan. It was built in Ford's Oakland, California assembly plant, then ceremoniously driven across the new Bay Bridge to Treasure Island where it was displayed next to the 15 millionth Ford, a 1927 Model T. Following its appearance it was driven across the country to make an appearance at Ford's Garden Court at the New York World's Fair before returning to San Francisco where it arrived displaying license plates from all the states it traversed, each of them reading 27 000 000 or some variation. This 1939 Ford Deluxe Tudor is subtly linked with the 27 millionth Ford. It is the same body style; it also has a 1939 San Francisco fair window sticker and matching key fob.
