Whenever you do a project for yourself you tend to do it right. So when the time came to paint this 1977 GMC Sierra pickup the owner (who also happens to own a body shop) pulled out all the stops. Love it or hate it that paint job stops people in their tracks and is simply spectacular in every sense of the word. There's an enduring purity to these trucks and they tend to look great no matter what you do to them. From sky-high off-roaders to slammed street machines it's hard to make one of these look bad. But sometimes you find one that's truly special and this Sierra certainly qualifies for that. When you have the knowledge and the tools to do a job correctly the finished product becomes a showcase for your talents and this truck is a rolling billboard for a seriously talented guy. The base coat is Lamborghini Orange which is already an outrageous hue by itself. Laid down atop some laser-straight bodywork it almost glows in the dark. But to make this long bed pickup truly stand out they added beautifully rendered flames in bright green accented by some subtle airbrush work to make them look three-dimensional and some trick pinstripe work on the smoothed tailgate. A billet grille chrome bumpers and clear taillights give it a slick street truck look and the spray-in bedliner means it's still useful as a truck too. The gray fabric interior is a welcome respite from the visual fiesta going on outside featuring new seat covers on the original bench. A custom dash pad works with the embossed seat covers to create a more inviting interior than the original working-class environment and a few flames on the steering wheel cover and floor mats match the truck's theme and can be easily removed if they're not your style. The gauges are original and a bit faded but they give you a comprehensive view of the crate motor up front (more on that in a moment). It also includes options like power windows and locks factory A/C and a tilt wheel plus an aftermarket AM/FM/CD stereo system. A sliding rear window is always a welcome addition in a pickup offering draft-free ventilation when it's not quite warm enough for the A/C. A 350 cubic inch GM crate motor was stuffed between the fenders during the makeover and delivers a stronger punch to match the truck's visuals. It's not really detailed for show but the combination of a 4-barrel carb and a snarky dual exhaust system certainly gets the point across. It is nicely maintained with a lot of recent work including a major service on the A/C system and a conversion to R134a refrigerant. It's backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and the factory rear end so please don't be afraid to put this truck to work. The slammed stance comes from a set of drop spindles and springs up front and custom shackles in back so it can still haul loads without worrying about damaging fragile aftermarket parts. Flashy chrome wheels from Panther look great and feature 255/55/15 front and 275/60/15 rear tires. No it's not for everyone but if you like being the star of the show and taking home trophies for best paint well perhaps this show and go hauler is the right choice after all. Call today!
