This Black Pearl / Black 500E is an extremely well-kept, enthusiast-owned example with some choice RennTech upgrades, presenting in superior condition in every way.Developed in partnership with Porsche, the 500E was the high-performance variant of the W124 E-Class, and is considered by many to be father of the modern factory production V8 Super Sedan, whose bloodlines live on today in the form of the E63 AMG. Each car took an unheard-of 18 days to complete, hand-built at Porsche (in the same facility that previously built the 959) with special flared bodywork, modified SL suspension, SL brakes, Recaro seats, and powered by a naturally-aspirated, all aluminum 5.0L V8 making 322 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. Performance was properly quick with 0-60mph in 5.5s, which made it quicker off the line than a Ferrari Testarossa, and a top speed was governed at 155mph. With an $80,000 original MSRP, just 1,528 were sold in the US from 1990-1995.The example seen here was sold new in Portland, Oregon before going to Santa Cruz, CA with its second owner, and stayed in California until coming up to the Seattle area with the most recent owner in 2008. The car has been immaculately kept and enthusiastically owned, sympathetically driven just 83,000 miles, or just under 3,500 miles per year.It has been upgraded with a carefully selected list of RennTech performance equipment, including a carbon fiber high volume air intake, performance engine management chip, and high performance cat-back exhaust system. The mild tuning brings out the character of the engine and increases output by about 25 hp in addition to removing the speed limiter.
