This is a truly fabulous Packard. 1936 was the last year Packard offered an open car without rollup windows and it was only available as the Phaeton. But what a car it was as this splendid example shows. From the raked vee grille through the long hood and sweeping skirted front fenders to the low raked windshield low top and teardrop rear fenders the lines are just exquisite. Where this car really stands out however is in something it lacks: sidemounted spares. Sidemounts are so common on cars of this era that it’s hard to grasp their absence but it also lets the integrated contours of the body design show themselves. Packard discretely uses almost no chrome on the body only thin spears outlining the hood side vents delicate door handles and the windshield frame. The overall effect of this has only gotten more pleasing with time. This particular example is the only known Phaeton on the 1402 Eight chassis. It has had a thorough accurate and high point restoration. The car is finished in dark green with a tan pin stripe matching leather upholstery and a tan cloth top while the wheels are painted body color with chrome hubcaps and trim rings and wide whitewall Firestone tires. Equipment includes a driver’s side spotlight luggage rack jump seats ride control jump seats a top-pivoted opening windshield and “donut chaser” radiator mascot. It is a beautiful automobile with an equivalent restoration in tasteful colors. Top up or top down this is a stunning Packard Eight that will not be out of place in even the finest collections of elegant coachwork. Price: $175,000
