Everybody loves the Ford Model A. Rugged dependable and fun to drive cars like this 1931 tudor sedan are affordable entries into the hobby that teach you everything you need to know about the care of an old car. With stable values and excellent parts support they're the ideal starter collectable. The bright Kelly green paint job gives this tudor sedan an upbeat demeanor that's perfect for the Model A. It's an older restoration that wasn't intended to collect trophies but rather be a pleasant car to drive and look good doing it. In that regard it succeeds quite well with classic good looks and details that make 1930s cars so charming. The finish remains in very good condition with an appropriate shine and the contrast with the correct black fenders (that's the only way Model As came) looks period perfect. The doors fit well and the hood lines up nicely enough and there's no evidence that this was ever anything but a nice complete car. Ford pioneered the use of stainless steel in 1930 (he called it "rustless steel") so the radiator shell and other bright pieces look great and will continue to do so for years to come. The fabric top insert is part of the deal with early 1930s cars and while it isn't totally correct and shows some wear it's still doing its job of keeping the rain out. The interior is far more luxurious and comfortable than you'd expect in an affordable Ford like this with comfortable tweed cloth upholstery front and rear. The upholstery is in very good condition with minimal wear the door panels include gathered map pockets and shiny hardware and the simple instrument panel is joined by accessory temperature and oil pressure gauges underneath. A rubber floor mat was standard equipment for front seat passengers but there are carpets in place today to help control noise and heat. You'll find that it's easy to master the 3-speed manual transmission which needs a quick double-clutch between gears and the big hard rubber steering wheel makes the unassisted (obviously) steering feel nimble. Controls are simple with the headlight lever in the center of the wheel spark advance on the left of the steering column and a hand throttle on the right and that knob ahead of the passenger is the choke and fuel mixture control. And that's it! The engine is the same 200 cubic inch inline-four that powered all Fords from 1928 to 1931 (and beyond). With a long stroke it makes impressive torque that gives the little Ford zippy performance around town and it's happy to cruise at 45 MPH without complaint. The engine bay is very well detailed with fresh green paint on the block a proper Zenith carburetor and even the original distributor with flat copper leads lights the spark. It's all quite rugged and simple enough to be serviced almost anywhere and as I mentioned parts are extremely easy to find. The suspension is buggy springs and live axles but nobody can argue with the toughness of the Model A and you'll find that this one will serve you well with only routine maintenance. Recent 19-inch blackwalls look right on the cheerful Tacoma Cream wire wheels. No collector should be without a Model A somewhere and this is an affordable way to get started in the world's greatest hobby. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
