In 1958 Chevrolet moved the Nomad up to the Bel Air series and gave it two more doors making it one of the most stylish yet practical wagons of the period. Featuring the same stunning one-year-only styling it's ornate sleek and insanely attractive if you're into cars that can haul. And when was the last time you saw one? Wearing period-perfect two-tone turquoise paint this gorgeous wagon looks about a mile long and has enough chrome to make it the ideal '50s cruiser. The restoration is brilliant and must have cost a rather large fortune because there's a lot of sheetmetal and so many little parts and shiny details that the chrome bill alone probably would have bought you a nice '58 Impala hardtop. At any rate they got their money's worth because the doors fit well the hood lines up just right and the paint has a wonderful period shine that's not too hard and bright like modern urethane but more akin to '50s enamel. The accessory fender skirts help with the long low look and you'll note that this heavy cruiser has tinted glass all around with the right greenish EZ-Eye cast to it. Moving up to the Bel Air line means that all the great stainless side trim the dramatically sculpted quarter panels and that massive grille were all standard equipment and the wagon got beautiful vertical strips on the tailgate and single bullet-shaped taillights on the outboard edges. The beautiful two-tone interior wears the exact same plastic seat covers your grandmother used in her living room. Too cool! The look is a wink and a smile to '50s suburbia and the fabric underneath is in excellent condition with only minor signs of use and age so perhaps there's something to those covers after all. Correct carpets flashy door panels that are undoubtedly newer and the same glorious dashboard that all 1958 Chevys carried make it a great place to spend some time. The carpets are protected by color-matched floor mats and you'll note that the two-tone paint extends into the door jambs a sure sign of quality work. There are no modern upgrades inside and even the original AM radio is still in the dash. The cargo bay is truly massive wearing correct carpets that don't look like they've hauled anything dirty or sharp well ever. This is a seriously nice car. Chevy's top engine in 1958 was the 348 cubic inch V8 and you're going to need that muscle to move this heavy cruiser. Accurately restored and highly detailed the engine bay looks better than new highlighting the distinctive 348 valve covers with traditional Chevy Orange paint. A correct air cleaner up top reproduction hoses and tower clamps and even a factory generator/power steering unit make this a show-worthy engine bay. It starts easily with a great V8 burble from the twin exhaust pipes and thanks to a new 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission it's a superlative highway cruiser that's ideal for family road trips. The chassis is entirely original and shows no major issues and you'll have to agree that this is one well-preserved Chevy. The finishing touch is a set of reproduction bias-ply wide whites on original wheels with spinner hubcaps. If you're into wagons this is a spectacular rare find that neatly combines show-quality restored pieces with very nicely preserved originals. A very impressive car all around. Call today!
