The Jeep YJ has gotten a reputation because this 1989 Jeep Wrangler Sahara is not only good-looking but highly competent in the rough stuff as well. The color combination gives it a unique and very attractive look and few off-road powerplants are as well-regarded as the Jeep 4.0-liter six. Building on Jeep's tough-as-nails history the Sahara was one of many special edition Wranglers that carried special colors and options to make it stand out. Most notable was the subtle and very attractive color combination which did indeed evoke images of the desert. Now obviously this one has been babied and treated to years of careful maintenance because that desert bronze paint still shines almost like new. Despite the big tires and off-road gear it doesn't look like this one has been in survival mode up on the trails with nice fender flares and step plates that make the YJ look even more aggressive. And the years have probably vindicated the square headlights which look right on this new-generation Jeep along with the yellow pinstripes and big Sahara logos on its flanks. It's still rugged but the handsome interior perfectly complements the Sahara's sophisticated look. Green seat covers piped in tan are durable and easy to maintain yet are more comfortable and supportive that slippery vinyl would be. Heavy-duty floor coverings add a functional atmosphere to the interior and their low-maintenance durability will make taking care of it a breeze after a day of fun. Factory gauges stretch across the dash but cover all the important functions and the YJ offered features like a leather-wrapped wheel on a tilt column and an AM/FM/CD stereo to make it feel a little more civilized. Steel doors with upholstered door panels have survived the passage of time in excellent condition although the bikini top isn't for folks afraid of getting dirty or wet. There's also a padded roll bar just in case. Jeep's 4.0-liter inline-six was standard equipment in the Wrangler for years; after all why mess with one of the most durable and reliable powerplants on the planet? The ultra-clean engine bay doesn't show signs of off-roading but rather a well-maintained look that still uses factory finishes and hardware throughout. The heavy-duty air cleaner protects the carburetor in the rough stuff and it fires up with that characteristic Jeep grumble from the single tailpipe which works with a custom exhaust header to bolster bottom-end torque. Power steering and brakes give it the ability to go over the rough stuff without compromise and the 5-speed manual gearbox and 2-speed transfer case means it'll go just about anywhere. A mild suspension lift gives it that oversized look that makes Jeeps so appealing and adds useful ground clearance too. And like the engine bay it's clean and well-maintained not dirty and looking like it just came off the trail suggesting that this Jeep has led a very easy life almost entirely on the pavement. Recent 15-inch Mickey Thompson alloy wheels look great and carry giant 33x12.50-15 off-road radials. It would be a mistake to under-estimate this Jeep and with its distinctive and handsome good looks it makes a great statement at shows or out on the trail all at a very reasonable price. Call today!
