In 1911 Locomobile of Bridgeport Connecticut introduced the Model 48 a car that would remain in production for an incredible 18 years. Large comfortable and quiet it was built with the highest level of craftsmanship and a popular choice among the American elite. With a wheelbase of 142 inches and given the social standing of many Locomobile owners Model 48s were often bodied as heavy tourers or limousines. This 1919 Locomobile Model 48 Roadster however is distinct in that it wears a sleek roadster body by Merrimac. Fitted with a newer carburetor and 12-volt electrical system at the Locomobile factory in 1922 it was eventually found remarkably intact and with only 17000 miles at a New Haven salvage yard in the 1940s. The man who rescued the car was Locomobile authority Alexander Stein who had the bodywork restored and kept the Model 48 Roadster until 1976. Its next owner kept the car for 36 years actively touring the car all over New England. Since then it had its wheels and running boards refurbished and despite the age of its restoration was awarded 98.25 points and its Senior badge at the 2013 CCCA Michigan Region Grand Classic. Additionally whilst in the care of its most recent owner the car was toured extensively having been driven close to 2000 miles in the last two years.. Finished in green it has a black cloth top artillery wheels rear-mounted spare tire driving light and black leather interior. Equipped with an 85 horsepower 525 ci T-head straight-six and four-speed manual transmission and currently showing what are believed to be less than 23000 actual miles it also features the full set of original tools including a wrench jack trouble light air hose with gauge and set of Rajah spark plugs. This sympathetically cared for Locomobile has shown itself to be both a strong tour vehicle and a showable automobile and will ably continue to do so for its next owner. Price: $199,000
