The big news from Bentley and Rolls-Royce in 1960 was the new 6230cc aluminum cylinder block overhead valve V-8 engine. Only slightly heavier than its 4887cc F-head six-cylinder predecessor the new V-8 made Rolls-Royce’s traditional “adequate” horsepower more than just adequate. Power was being diffused in the early 60s with accessories like power steering and air conditioning. The V-8 gave Bentley all it needed to meet ancillaries’ needs and still leave most traffic in its stately wake. The “Standard Steel Saloon” from the Crewe factory was elegant and appointed lavishly enough to satisfy all but the most regal potentates. This is a choice example of the early Bentley S2 distinguished by its lower rounded radiator grille and hood. Lefthand drive for non-UK markets it is nicely equipped with a factory sunroof air conditioning automatic transmission and standard power steering and power-assisted brakes. It was owned for many years by a Bentley aficionado who carefully maintained it in very good cosmetic condition but more importantly ready to be used and driven on a moment’s notice. The paint chrome upholstery and interior trim are very good the interior wood trim and embellishments are even better. This is a postwar Bentley that has been maintained to be driven and used and it performs those tasks with the quality and comfort that Bentley owners expect. A Bentley driver will not go wrong with this 1960 Bentley S2 Saloon. Price: $82,500
