Among the legions of MGBs out there the most valuable have to be the early Mark I models that were introduced halfway through 1962. Coming from the MGA the sleek 2-seater was a very big deal in the early '60s and with a few smart upgrades this pretty green roadster is one of those rare investment-grade Bs. Stripped to a bare tub and rebuilt from there this incredibly straight and solid MGB has had more invested in it than most cars costing twice as much. Wherever new sheetmetal was required entirely new panels were installed instead of patching the old ones and the original welds and seams were re-welded to strengthen the body. That's correct British Racing Green which is brighter and more yellow than most folks think and it looks fantastic on the sleek MGB bodywork. Experts will note a myriad of small detail upgrades including the bullet-style mirrors and trunk rack but it still retains things like the original pull-style door handles which were only available on very early cars. Gaps are quite good and the quality of the workmanship would be at appropriate on far more expensive cars. Most of the chrome and stainless trim was refinished during the restoration making the little green car truly sparkle. The interior is also all-new from the seat covers to the carpets to the simple door panels. The white piping on the seats and door panels gives it a playful feel that's less austere than some of the later models with all the black plastic pieces and again there are smart modifications that make it a pleasure to drive. Perhaps the most obvious upgrade is the center console but it also includes such niceties as a Sony AM/FM/CD stereo head unit (which required a switch to a negative ground electrical system) removable sun visors and a late-model 4-speed transmission with electric overdrive. Beautiful Jaeger instruments make the MGB look far more upscale and the leather-wrapped banjo-style wheel is quite attractive. A new black convertible top and matching black leather boot provide a great look top up or top down and the trunk is nicely finished with black carpets and a matching cover for the spare tire. The engine is a fully rebuilt 5-main-bearing engine from a 1979 model with a fresh cam inside and a pair of rebuilt and tuned SU HS4 carburetors. Thanks to the interchangeability of parts on these cars the later engine looks quite authentic under the hood particularly painted in MG Maroon with a lovely aluminum valve cover and the individual air cleaners on the carburetors look racy. A Pertronix electronic ignition system was stashed inside the original distributor so it lights off quickly and easily and all the wiring harnesses are brand new. The starter and generator were also rebuilt along with the fuel pump which draws from a freshly cleaned and sealed gas tank. Brakes steering and suspension were rebuilt and thanks to a new stainless exhaust system it has a robust engine note that's a delight to the ears. Original painted wires look fantastic and wear new 195/60/14 blackwall radials that fit in the wheel wells perfectly. A delightful early MGB that has been properly finished so it can be enjoyed without a second thought. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
