What did Ford Motor Company get when Carroll Shelby of Shelby American got involved with a project? This 1968 Mustang Shelby GT 500 KR convertible, for one. This stunning and wicked fast "King of the Road" Mustang comes with the original numbers matching engine and transmission. It also comes in the original Acapulco Blue paint color. The current owner bought the car in 1988 and immediately started restoration, which was completed in 1990. It remains in his possession, stored in a controlled environment in the Chicago area. It has been driven just over 10,000 miles since the restoration. The 1968 Mustang is nicely optioned with a 4 speed transmission, power front disc brakes, power steering and a tilt-away steering wheel. The engine was rebuilt and bored .030, balanced and blueprinted. During the restoration, the suspension, the brakes and the gas and brake lines were replaced. A stainless steel exhaust system was also added. The differential is the original "N" case 4 pin Posi-trac with 31 spline rear axles. The current gear ratio is 3:91. The original 3:50 differential goes with the car. A Pertronix electronic ignition keeps the original look under the hood, yet improves performance. Five 10 spoke Shelby wheels with five Eagle GT+4 tires are installed and the Mustang has been upgraded with Bosch H4 headlights. An aftermarket Alpine AM/FM stereo cassette player has replaced the original AM, but the original goes with the car. The typical price for a GT500KR in this condition was well over $200K a few years ago. With the market coming back, this is an opportunity to own an excellent investment. Price: $179,900
