1977 Volkswagen Beetle Chassis: 1172086650 Engine: AJ116970 As-New, Original Example Just 92 Original Miles Owned by Pete Lovely for 36 Years Offered with Original Dealer Documentation, Window Sticker, Books, Tool Kit and Jack A Unique Time-Capsule Example of the Last Year Beetle in the US Runs and drives On July 26, 1977, the Importer's and Manufacturer's Statement of Origin was issued to Pete Lovely Volkswagen for this Beetle. Upon arrival at Pete Lovely Volkswagen in Fife, Washington, the car received its window sticker and the dealership's license plate frame and inserts extolling Another Lovely Volkswagen. With an optional sunroof and leatherette upholstery, the window sticker priced the brand-new car at $3,949. It never had a chance to sell, as the last VW Beetle they would ever receive it made its way directly into Lovely's private collection. The original dealership inventory folder for the Beetle notes four dealer-installed accessories, receipts for which are contained inside. In August 1979, at Lovely's request, the car received four new chrome wheels and radial tires. The folder, which accompanies the car, also contains the original MSO and a small envelope with the car's spare key, still sealed. In 2013 the car was purchased from Pete Lovely's family showing just 87 miles from new. The original window sticker, dealership plates, tool roll, books, and jack come with the car. The Beetle is an absolute time-capsule piece. All surfaces and major components, with the exception of the chrome wheels that Lovely added, are all original. Even with the millions of Beetles produced, perhaps only a limited few can claim to be essentially brand-new. This Beetle is a fantastic collection piece given its specifications, color scheme, long-term ownership by a noteworthy individual, minimal mileage, and overall condition. The car is powered by a 1,585cc overhead valve flat four-cylinder engined with an Air-Flow Control Fuel injection system. There is a four-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel Hydraulic disc brakes. About Pete Lovely: In 1954 Pete Lovely opened Pete Lovely Volkswagen in Fife, Washington. Lovely was a true car enthusiast, and like many dealers of the time, he was heavily involved in racing. The following year he won the F-Modified SCCA Championship in the famous Pooper, a Porsche-Cooper special. He repeated the result the very next year and his notoriety grew. He was eventually asked to drive for team owners John Edgar, John Fitch, and Jack Nethercutt. In 1959, Pete was called upon to join Team Lotus and got the opportunity to race in Grand Prix events. Lovely became a well-liked individual in racing circles and he was a champion of racing in the Pacific Northwest, often organizing events at Pacific Raceways. Lovely often ran cars under the banner of Pete Lovely Volkswagen and his Tacoma, Washington-area dealership proved successful, recognized for their honest business. In the decades running the dealership, countless Volkswagens came and went; but, in 1977 with the final Beetle Sedans arriving, one car in particular caught Lovely's eye. It was the silver with black Beetle offered here. -
