Packard automobiles epitomized luxury during their heyday. This 1929 Packard 626 Standard 8 cost $2,400 new -- more than four times the cost of a 1929 Model A. This example is an older restoration, but it has been driven sparingly and has held up well. The wheels, fenders, running boards, doors and roof are excellent; there are minor cracks in the paint on the cowl, but it's otherwise outstanding all around. Bumpers, door handles, grille, the "sliding boy" radiator cap and all hardware are excellent. The interior shows very well; all wood has been restored to a very nice standard, and the headliner, door panels and seats have been reupholstered in period correct materials. Even the roll-down window shades have been fully restored and are working (and retracting) properly with original hardware. The carpet in the rear is spotless, and the front aluminum floor boards are in excellent condition. The dash is particularly nice -- all gauges are working except for the clock, and even the lights in the dash work. Under the hood is Packard's 320 cubic inch straight-8 engine. It was rebuilt a few years ago when the car restored and has seen little mileage since; the water jacket cover was replaced with brass. It?s running a Detroit Lubricator carb; it starts easily and idles smoothly and that 8-cylinder is considerably quieter, smoother and more powerful than anything else from the same era. The clutch is brand new and the gearbox feels good. Steering and brakes feel just as they should, and the built-in chassis lubrication system is still working. The car runs and drives very nicely, and I felt quite comfortable driving it around Atlanta recently for its photo shoot. For more information about this beautifully restored 1929 Packard Standard 8 available at Motorcar Studio in Atlanta, please call . Price: $49,500
