If you"re looking for a truly unique street rod that will have admirers doing a double take, you will love this 1948 Austin A40. From its custom CNC bent stainless steel headers and exhaust to its laser straight paint and hand painted graphics with gold leaf embellishment, no expense was sparedin the build of this car. Generating a mind blowing estimated 800 horsepower, this car is powered by a blown 392 CID HEMI V-8 from a 1957 or 1958 Chrysler that was bored .10 over. The engine machine work was done by Weber Power Products, one of the foremost builders of high performance and race engines in the US, and the final assembly was done by Jim Bailey"s Engine Shop in Mantua, Ohio. The engine is mated to aTCI street/strip turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission with a B&M pro-ratchet shifter and TCI 2500 torque converter. Mechanical specs and significant performance upgrades on this street rod include the following: Hot Heads ported aluminum heads, valve train, & valve covers Hot Heads blower style intake manifold Hot Heads engine dress us equipment SSI GM-style Blower Ross racing pistons Manley Billet steel rods Howard camshaft (.510 lift, .252 duration) 2 Edelbrock 4 BBL 750 cfm carburetors K&N air filters Digital 6 Plus MSD ignition Custom stainless steel headers and exhaust Custom stainless steel oil pan Brass Works copper heat sponge radiator Spal electric fan Mark Williams rear axle 3:91 Detroit Locker Mark Williams modular aluminum third member Mark Williams aluminum drive shaft “Profile Racing' billet aluminum a-arms and spindles Aldan coilover front shocks 10' Wilwood front disc brakes Dual master cylinder and line lock 4 link rear suspension 13 gallon fuel tank Aeromotive fuel system with braided lines Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro Man tires Profile Racing 4130 chrome moly chassis/cage Exterior details were not overlooked on this car at the expense of performance. Although showing a predominantly stock look, virtually no component of this all steel car was left untouched to accommodate its performance modifications, including its forward tilting steel front end. Its “Absolutely Red' base coat/clear coat finish has a beautiful luster that is laser straight. Centerline Convo Pro 00 wheels and polished chrome and other exterior brightwork complete the package. The interior features aluminum panels and a custom dash board that houses a full battery of AutoMeter gauges, including a dash mounted tachometer with oil and shift lights. The removable seats are by Summit Racing Poly Pro and feature Simpson 5-point racing harnesses. The headliner is by KIP Motor Company, and all switches are built into the cage. Although not equipped with windshield wipers or an emergency brake, this car is licensed and has been driven on the street, and runs and drives as well as it looks. Minor imperfections in the paint (a few small chips/scratches) do not detract from the overall appearance of the car. In addition, the front grille and rear trunk handle exhibit pitting. Another item of note is that the speedometer, odometer, fuel level gauge and blower gauge are not currently connected. The baffled fuel tank requires a tubular sending unit to make the fuel level gauge functional. The side windows are currently fashioned of plexiglas and pull up and down by hand, but side glass will be provided with sale for the next owner to install if so desired.
