Go to any car show and the field will be full of 1955-57 Chevy hardtops and convertibles but where are the four-door sedans? They made more of those than any other body style but a lot of folks have never even seen one. Well this 1955 Bel Air sedan is the solution and with just three owners (two in the same family) it's a solid car that's only been restored as needed over the course of the last six decades. The original owner parked the low-mileage Chevy in his garage sometime around 1976 and it wasn't until he passed away that his nephew brought it out of hibernation. Most of the cosmetics were freshened at that time including fresh Onyx Black paint and much of the trim so it looks great today with an authentic look. The 4-doors proportions are as handsome as any of its siblings and the clever use of trim disguises it quite well. And as a solid low-mileage mostly original car it has that undeniable all-of-a-piece feel that the best cars exhibit. All four doors fit well and close with that reassuring sound that old cars do so well and there's no sign that this car was ever rusty or an accident victim during its two decades of use or three decades of storage. The mileage indicates that it was not driven extensively and the storage was probably done well given how tidy the rest of the car is. Other things like the glass and stainless trim are excellent original pieces while the Bel Air emblems on the quarters are new and the bumpers are freshly plated and sparkle like new. Aside from the blue paint on the dash and the carpets the interior is shockingly original and extremely well preserved. The seat covers could be used as templates for the very best restorations and show few signs of age or use aside from some minor stretching. The door panels and headliner are also original pieces and in great shape showing the level of detail that reproduction pieces can't quite duplicate. The carpets and kick panels are replacements and blend in seamlessly with the rest of the interior pieces. Other equipment like the bright instrument panel trim the gauge cluster and even the radio are original and the steering wheel is so nice it just has to have been restored. There's also fresh carpeting in the trunk which isn't 100kuthentic but it does help with noise and heat in the old sedan and there's a full-sized spare and jack assembly. Mechanically the 265 cubic inch V8 has never been apart. When it came out of storage it was extensively serviced including a new water pump and radiator generator starter wiring harness tune-up parts and a fresh gas tank out back. As a result it runs superbly with a strong V8 purr from the exhaust. The PowerGlide transmission was flushed but needed no other work to be ready to enjoy and the rest of the chassis is as you can see in excellent order. Fresh 205/75/15 Coker wide whitewall radials have been installed that look right and handle great. Give the four-doors a chance. It's just as handsome as its siblings and with V8 power it's every bit as fun to drive.
