American Motors Corporation seemed to feel a little left out of the Pony Car race with the unbelievable success of the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro leading the way. They decided to bring their own design to the market in 1968 as the new 2-seater AMX, which stood for American Motors Experimental. Small, lightweight, and fitted with a host of standard features, they provided engine options to ensure the horsepower junkies could be satisfied as well! More so, legendary race driver Craig Breedlove piloted the AMX to 106 new National & International speed and endurance records! It also proved to be a great design that lead AMC to success at the race track! By 1970, the brand new, one-year only AMX body design paved the way for Roger Penske (Penske Racing owner) to help Mark Donohue (hall of fame driver) to SCCA Trans Am series success for the next 6 straight years! It placed second in 1970, and first place the next three out of five years! This was up against cars like the Mustang Boss 302, Camaro Z/28, and Plymouth Cuda AAR! It comes as a great surprise these cars have yet to explode on the collector car market! Only time will tell, but we already feel the performance packed AMX is a sound blue chip investment! We are excited to tell you about this 1970 AMC AMX hardtop that has been beautifully preserved by its past owner of 33 years! Refinished last in the late 1970's in a Medium Gold Metallic lacquer(originally Golden Lime Metallic) with Yellow Sport stripe over original Black Vinyl bucket seat interior, it will show mild patina as an original car should! Options include the factory high-output 390ci V8 4-barrel Ram Air engine with Go-Package (power front disc brakes, handling package with front sway bar and heavy duty shocks & springs, heavy duty cooling package, Twin Grip limited-slip rear axle, E70x14 tires, and Ram Air hood scoop), T10 Borg Warner 4-speed manual transmission, optional 3.54 axle ratio, high back bucket seats, air conditioning, power steering, 14' Mag styled steel wheels with radial tires, comfort grip sport steering wheel, tilt column, Light Group with low fuel warning indicator, windshield washer, remote driver"s side sport mirrors, yellow exterior sport stripe, rear window defrost, rocker trim, Instrumentation Cluster with in-dash tachometer & 140-mph speedometer, day/night rearview mirror, upgraded Audiovox AM/FM/8-Track player, added rear spoiler, and so much more!! This January 1970 built AMX is numbered #21847 and showcases just 25,945 actual miles from new! Fully documented with a signed odometer disclosure statement from the former owner, original title listing actual mileage, and a copy of the advertisement when he purchased it in 1980 with only 20,000 miles! This brilliant car drives with the explosive caliber you first read about, then experience fully on a test drive around the block! It survives with the correct X-code 390ci Ram Air engine that produces a grin-inducing 325 factory horsepower, correct dual exhaust with chrome tips exiting the rear with a perfect note, smooth shifting transmission with upgraded Mr. Gasket Eliminator shifter linkage, and a rear end ready to leave your mark wherever your right foot felt too heavy! It symbolizes the last of the original 2-seater AMX"s ever to be built by American Motors, and one of only 4,116 built for 1970. With a factory 4-speed manual transmission and 390 V8, it represents one of only 1,632 units manufactured! Very rare once all other options are factored in!
