When Chrysler president Bob Lutz green lighted the idea of a “modern day Cobra' in 1988 through the Advanced Design Studio, the project took 4 years to design. It was not taken lightly and Carroll Shelby himself was asked to help with the design. Like the original Cobra, the car was meant to be aggressive in style, simple and lightweight, extremely powerful, and not meant to be driven by the unskilled! Given that Chrysler was owned by Lamborghini at the time, the first production V10 engine was put in their hands to produce. It received final production approval from Lee Iacocca and hit showrooms in 1992! With iconic names like this involved, it was bound for success! Production of the original Dodge Viper continued for next 18 years with four generational designs! A new 5th generation version will be seen cruising the streets this year! We are very excited to offer this 1996 Dodge Viper RT/10 Special Edition Roadster #87! It is one of the very first to hit showrooms, and has been perfectly preserved with just 31,492 miles! Featuring all original Viper Red exterior paint, with Yellow accented Viper badging and 17' 5-spoke alloy wheels. The beautifully kept Black Leather interior is accented nicely with Red leather wrapped steering wheel, shift knob, and brake handle! Power comes from a newly designed 8.0L V10 engine producing an increased 415 horsepower for 1996, mated to a T56 Borg Warner 6-speed transmission. Options include air conditioning, tilt steering column, removable rear window, JVC CD audio system, keyless remote entry, and more. The original, foldable targa roof is included with factory cloth side curtains with their protective storage bags! The only upgrade over factory is an absolutely brilliant sounding Corsa Stainless Steel exhaust system! The Michelin Pilot tires all appear new with plenty of tread remaining.
