NEW PRIC! Clean California convertible with older restoration. Runs and drives extremely well, with upgrades like hidden stereo with iPod interface. A recent California transplant, this 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe convertible is clean, solid, and ready to enjoy with a handsome Mexico Red paint job over all-original sheetmetal. Restored about a decade ago, it was clearly built to cruise, and offers a great change of pace for those of you tired of the same-old Fords and Chevys at all the shows. The restoration work was done well and the car still presents nicely, although it does, of course, show a few signs of age and use. All the chrome is in good condition, with some of it undoubtedly remaining original, but thanks to easy living in California that"s not a demerit. The interior has been restored to factory specifications, with lovely tan Bedford cord and red leather. Of note, this car sports a hidden stereo system with a pair of speakers mounted in the rear quarters and an iPod interface below the original radio, all powered by a 12-volt battery mounted discreetly in the trunk, complete with its own on-board charger. All the gauges are functional, and new carpets were installed at the time of the restoration. The power convertible top is fully functional, although the material is durable and stain-resistant vinyl instead of the original canvas, and offers a crystal clear plastic rear window for excellent visibility. Plymouth"s rugged and reliable 217.8 cubic inch inline-six provides the power, and in 1949 it was rated at an admirable 97 horsepower. In practice, it delivers entertaining performance, and thanks to the easy-shifting 3-speed transmission, it keeps up with modern traffic without any issues. Driving manners are exemplary, with a comfortable ride, nimble handling, and downright impressive braking from the 4-wheel drums. From the big oil bath air cleaner to the accessory oil filter, workmanship is tidy and everything works as it should. There"s quite a bit of new wiring, so you can enjoy this car without worries, and a dual exhaust system delivers a pleasant sound and perhaps even a few extra horsepower. It wears four 6.70-15 Firestone wide whitewall tires for a period-perfect look, along with the original full-wheel hubcaps on matching Mexico Red steel wheels. This is a wonderful convertible that is a pleasure to drive, without the investment that a comparable Ford might require. With unmatched reliability and a few clever upgrades, you"ll find it hard to resist when the sun is shining, and thanks to its exemplary road manners, you"ll never complain about the length of your commute again. A terrific car at a great price. For more information and photos, please visit our website at . Price: $24,900 negotiable
