When the Nissan Corporation came to America in the late 1950's, they found that their automobiles were not quite up to the same standards drivers in the USA were use to. A quick trip to the drawing boards and new, more substantial models were created. In 1961, the Fairlady 1500 sports car was first shown, and though production numbers were limited, it was a step in the right direction. In 1965, the engine size was increased by 100 cc's, and these little sports cars were put on the export list. Although the Fairlady nameplate was dropped and a simple 1600, referring to the engine size, was used, these cars enjoyed success and helped to bring in foot traffic at the newly established Datsun dealers across the land., This little red sports car was purchased from a museum where it sat for many years. It looks to have been treated to a full frame-off restoration. Fitted with black vinyl bucket seats, a black soft top plus a relatively rare removable hardtop, this is one of the nicest examples out there. Just 10,400 of these cars were produced, and this example is solid, rust free, mechanically and cosmetically. It has a 96 HP, 1595 cc, Overhead cam in-line 4-cylinder engine with a 4 speed transmission., $25,900
