This industrial-sized 1943 Ford (yes, you read that correctly), started out as a Navy-issued fire truck that remained in service well into the 1980s. It was rediscovered in the late 1990s and recently repurposed into the gorgeous and massive pickup truck you see today. Thoroughly updated, it runs and drives like a modern machine with all the conveniences we expect, along with a beautiful hand-crafted solid oak bed., The original cab and front sheetmetal were restored to a very high standard several years ago. The finish is a metallic green with black fenders, a traditional pickup color scheme that will never go out of style. Workmanship is quite good, as it is throughout the truck, and it was conceived as a cost-no-object build. At the same time, all the original trim was removed and refinished, but instead of replicating the original painted “blackout' look from 1943, everything was either chromed or polished to emulate later civilian versions. As a result of its original painted status and careful maintenance since it was completed, the brightwork is brilliant, with almost no notable flaws and a wonderful vintage look. The lovely oak bed was constructed by a professional cabinetmaker and has been finished to a very high standard, with removable side rails that will accommodate traditional stake sides for carrying larger loads., While the interior started out all business and very bare bones, it now includes all the modern conveniences to which we've become accustomed, including power windows, A/C, and a decent stereo system. The bench seat has been reupholstered in pleated black vinyl, and looks a bit more upscale than the original design, while the floor still carries rubber mats for easy cleaning. The instrument panel has been replaced by a billet insert full of digital gauges that monitor everything from oil pressure to engine speed. A newer tilt column and Ford steering wheel were installed, so it's easy to get comfortable behind the wheel, and the ducts for the Vintage Air A/C system have been neatly fitted to the dash. Everything works as it should, thanks to meticulous craftsmanship, and the big truck is as easy to drive as a modern dually pickup, but with a lot more style., Power comes from a reliable Ford 351 cubic inch V8, topped by an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and spinning a 3-speed automatic. The installation's goal was to keep everything as OEM as possible to ensure reliability, so factory ignition and cooling systems were incorporated into the design, and all the wiring is new. Of course, a 12-volt electrical system was installed at the same time, and the A/C system uses environmentally-friendly R134a refrigerant. The fuel system is all-new, including a fabricated stainless fuel tank, and the frame has been refinished to the same standards as the rest of the truck. New shocks were fitted to all four corners, and six new chrome dually wheels wear 235/85/16 light truck radials., A big, unique hauler that is ready to work or play, with a fascinating history, this 1943 Ford is fully sorted and ready to drive today. It's also the ideal vehicle for hauling your collector vehicle, and a lot of fun all by itself.
