This 1972 Monte Carlo is the car we all wished Chevy would have built. With a big block paired to a manual transmission it's the proverbial iron fist in a silk glove and the triple-black color combination suits it perfectly. Fast luxurious and subtle this may very well be the ultimate first-generation Monte Carlo. Someone did one heck of a job on this one. Black isn't this Monte's original color but it sure does look amazing. And you know if you're going to paint it a dark color the bodywork needs to be exceptional. Fortunately the guys who built this one knew what they were doing because it looks spectacular in person and even in photos you can see how sharp the body lines are and how much time was invested in getting it straight. The bodywork is factory-equipped and finished to an extremely high standard. All the trim remains intact polished to a mirror-like shine and even the grille is a 1972-vintage piece. Subtle SS badges are worn down low on the rocker panel trim but the point of this car is subtlety so that's definitely an asset. The black vinyl top is neatly installed and shows none of the usual issues. Driving this car is a sure-fire guaranteed way to get some compliments at your local cruise-in. If you were building your own ultimate Monte Carlo you'd undoubtedly give it a black bucket seat interior just like this one. Beautifully restored to original specifications (with one notable exception which I'll get to in a minute) this looks like a trophy-winning trailer queen inside. New seat covers door panels and carpets are like the factory intended and the original burled walnut dash is very well preserved. The A/C is cold auxiliary gauges were mounted under the dash to keep an eye on the big block and a newer AM/FM/CD stereo head unit was seamlessly integrated into the dash. But the big news is of course the shifter for the Richmond 6-speed manual transmission which looks right at home sticking out of the console which was borrowed from another full-sized Chevy and comes complete with a clock. Of course the other part of the equation is the thumping 502 cubic inch big block under the hood. Neatly detailed to look stock and still carrying all the original accessories it makes about four times more power than the original engine and moves the big coupe with effortless ease. Long-tube headers have been ceramic-coated for durability and dump into a pair of Flowmasters that sound awesome. The chassis is incredibly clean with zero signs of rust anywhere which is surely due to its low mileage and southern heritage. A rugged 12-bolt out back plants all that big block torque without a whimper and big sway bars front and rear give it handling that belies its size. Correct Rally wheels look right and wear subtle blackwalls for the perfect effect. The manual transmission in a Monte Carlo works so well you have to wonder why the factory didn't do it. Call today!
