This spectacular 1955 Thunderbird offers a matching-numbers powertrain a high-quality restoration and both tops adding up to a show car you can drive anywhere. Early Thunderbirds remain some of the most collectable of all cars and it's easy to understand why. With strong performing V8s under the hood a load of luxury and style that still makes people smile even more than fifty years later these are ideal cars for the collector who enjoys putting his machinery on the road. The bodywork was done to a very high standard just a few years ago and all the trouble-prone areas including around the rear fender skirts under the seats and in the trunk are all steel and rust-free thanks to long-term ownership in a warm dry climate. Code R Torch Red paint covers every square inch of the body to great effect; this one will stop traffic! The top stashes behind the seat giving it a clean unbroken line front to rear. It's safe to say that Ford stylists knew what they were doing when they set out to conquer the Corvette's territory. The main reason the Thunderbird out-sold the Corvette can be found inside. Where the Corvette remained a true sports car the Thunderbird was luxurious with a wide variety of power options such as the power seat found in this one. And few enthusiasts will disagree that the early Thunderbird interior is one of the most stylish ever created and it has all been perfectly replicated in this red roadster. From the two-tone leather seats to the instrument panel with a plexiglass window to light it from behind to the strip of bright machine-turned trim that stretches across the dash it's the kind of flash we'll never see again. Everything is restored in this car from the seat covers to the door panels and even the original AM radio still lives in the dash but now updated to work as a transistorized AM/FM unit. Overhead there's a new folding convertible top as well as the original non-porthole hard top. Under the hood is the original 292 cubic inch V8 which purrs sweetly through an authentic dual exhaust system. Bright red engine paint was a Thunderbird design statement along with the bright chrome air cleaner and gorgeous cast aluminum valve covers. This one retains its original 6-volt electrical system but a new Optima battery ensures quick starts every time. Correct hoses and clamps have been used throughout and even a correct windshield washer bag hangs on the inner fender. A Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission is an excellent choice given the Thunderbird's personal luxury mission and it lives in a nicely finished and rust-free chassis. New lines hoses brakes and shocks ensure that the ride is like new and it cruises on a set of whitewall radials on the original 15-inch steel wheels wearing correct hubcaps. Early Thunderbrids remain blue-chip collector cars but many have suffered neglect over the years. It always pays to buy the nicest one you can find and this Torch Red roadster fits the bill perfectly. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
