1976 CHEVROLET VEGA, 1976 Chevrolet Vega Kammback 140 cid four-cylinder rated at 84 horsepower, turbo hydramatic three-speed transmission, front disc and rear drum brakes; Wheelbase: 97o The Chevrolet Vega was introduced during the second wave of the American auto industry?s attempt to vanquish imported cars from North America. The first wave, which included the 1960 compact Ford Falcon, Chevrolet Corvair, and Chrysler Valiant, had slowed the imports but led by the VW Beetle, they soon recovered. GM began promoting its new car in the fall of 1968 when it announced that in two years the corporation would introduced a small, economical car tailored to American tastes, one that would effectively compete with the imports. Nineteen seventy-six brought another year of promotion for the economy car, with one of the most popular being the Vega. Chevrolet would produce over 160,000 for the model year. The Vega came with a standard 70 horsepower single-barrel carburetion and three-speed manual transmission. A larger horsepower motor and an automatic transmission were available options, although few opted for this combination. This Vega Wagon is in pristine original condition. It is equipped with the optional and lively 140 cubic inch two barrel 84 horsepower engine, and is mated with the optional Turbo Hydramatic transmission. The factory installed Four Seasons air conditioning makes it a pleasure to drive. The tilt and power steering add to the comfort of this pampered car. The factory roof rack and wheel trim rings nicely complement the custom ordered exterior and interior colors. This vehicle has been pampered for many years and it shows. This car has very recently had over $3,500 of documented mechanical work performed to ensure smooth operation and copies of the receipts will be included with the sale of the car. The work performed includes an extensive brake overhaul, carburetor and suspension work, motor mounts, tune-up and fluid change. This cult-favorite Vega is a shining example of one of Chevrolet?s most beloved production economy cars. Classic insurance available.
