1970 MASERATI GHIBLI 4.7 SPYDER, 1970 Maserati Ghibli Spyders/n AM115S 1155Fly Yellow with Black InteriorPenned by the famous and very talented Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Ghibli was one of his earliest designs. Featuring Maserati's wonderful quad-cam alloy V8, the car had excellent performance, but was also well-appointed and comfortable. While in production, it was Maserati's flagship, and represented the last of the traditional front-engined cars before the mid-engined fad began. Over 1100 coupes would be built, but there were also a limited number of Spyders made, just 125 in fact, of which this car is an example. This car is a late production 4.7 liter 5 Speed example that is believed to have covered just 28,323 miles from new. Aside from a high quality repaint, it is a largely original car that has survived wonderfully, and its appeal is further enhanced by the fitment of power steering (Ghiblis, like Daytonas, were criticized for their heavy steering), air conditioning, wire wheels, and a tilt and telescoping steering column that allows even large drivers to use the car comfortably. The car is in great cosmetic condition, with high quality paint in excellent condition. The panels are straight and the doors fit well. There are a handful of chips about the car, and some non-structural cosmetic bubbles at the bottoms of the doors. The chrome is extremely nice, with only light haze on the rear bumper, and no significant wear or deterioration otherwise. The glass is in fine shape as well. The interior is excellent and very likely original. The correct material, stitching, and patterns are present throughout, and this damage or significant wear. The seats have wonderful patina, and the dashboard is in superb shape. The instruments and switches are excellent, as are the carpets and top. Even the wood steering wheel is like new and does not appear to have been restored.Trunk and engine compartment are also in lovely original condition. The trunk carpet is excellent, and a matching spare wire wheel with Pirelli Cinturato tire is present as well. The engine compartment is very clean and appears never to have been restored either. The correct glossy finish is present on the air cleaner, and the correct wrinkle finish on the engine bay.The car drives well with good power delivery and minimal, if any smoke. The five speed transmission shifts well with very good second gear syncro both when warm and cold. The brakes and suspension both operate as they were intended. The car tracks straight and is a delight both at freeways speeds as well as around town. This is an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a genuine Ghibli Spyder with desirable options and equipment. Like most Italian thoroughbreds, they have enjoyed tremendous appreciation in recent years, yet still remain tremendously affordable compared to a Ferrari Daytona Spyder (also 125 examples built), despite the larger displacement engine, power steering, and more adjustable driving positi
