1970 MERCEDES-BENZ 280 SL, 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL. Silver with navy leather and correct blue German canvas top. This highly desirable Mercedes roadster is a complete, no compromises, show-quality restoration of an original 38,000 mile car. Featuring such highly prized options as factory A/C, and the rare 4-speed manual gear change, this car has a razor-straight body with absolutely superb panel fit. The exquisite silver paint is mirror-like in appearance, and the interior is flawless. The fully detailed engine compartment is as new in appearance as it is in function, and shows beautifully. This 280 SL has an undercarriage that truly must be seen to be believed. We have known this car and its previous owners for many years, and it?s easily one of the finest examples of the breed. This is a collector quality vehicle by any measure., Model history, The Mercedes-Benz W113 chassis, also known as the opagoda roofo SL Class, were produced from 1963 through 1971, and were available in 2.3, 2.5 and 2.8 liter displacement. All models were equipped with an extremely reliable, direct injected in-line 6-cylinder engine. All cars are rear-wheel drive, and feature independent rear suspension greatly improving ride and road holding ability. Most of these early SL?s were sold with a removable hard top and a soft top in the oCoupe/Roadstero configuration., The 2.8 liter 280 SL was introduced in 1967 and continued largely unchanged through 1971. Most of the 280 SL cars built for the U.S. market were fitted with automatic transmissions. Manual transmission cars are highly sought-after by enthusiasts- particularly in combination with factory A/C., Today, the Pagoda SL?s are considered highly desirable collector cars. Outstanding cars have realized significant appreciation, and have been praised for their original build quality and durability. Several enthusiast magazines have referred to these cars as the most practical collector cars available. Current values for the 280 SL in particular suggest that it?s the most popular of the genre.
