1966 OLDSMOBILE TORONADO, 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. A beautiful and tasteful mild custom, professionally done. Mirror-like ebony black, with an excellent, original bronze contrasting interior. The 81,265 miles indicated are believed to be actual. The car has been fitted with 18" custom chrome wheels as well as Z-rated, low profile tires. Shaved door handles accentuate the modern, streamlined appearance of this timeless design. Options include both power steering and power brakes. Thoroughly inspected by TLD staff, this Toronado represents a rare opportunity to acquire a uniquely modified classic car., In 1958, General Motors would begin a 7-year intensive design process for a revolutionary new automobile: the front wheel drive Oldsmobile Toronado. Unveiled in 1966 and the first of its kind domestically, the Toronado utilized a unique engine and transmission package that produced power to the front wheels rather than the rear. Using a 375hp, 425c.i. V-8, with 475 ft/lbs of torque mated to the brand new Turbo-hydramatic transmission, the Toronado set engineering standards and high precedents for future vehicles. In addition and more importantly, it marked a paradigm shift in Detroit that would quickly sweep the industry. The Toronado's first year was its best selling year as well as the year it won both Motor Trend's Car Of The Year Award, and Car Life's Award for Engineering Excellence.
