1950 PACKARD STANDARD 8, The all-new Packard models for 1948 featured what the designers called a "flow-through" fender. When introduced, many considered the Packard station wagon to be one of the most stylish wagons of the period. These cars exhibit an Art Deco style and look stunning from every angle. The raked "C" and "D" pillars provide additional avante-garde styling. In contrast, the strong vertical wooden slats on the doors denote the functionability of these wagons. Packard's "woodie wagon" was created by first taking a six passenger sedan off the assembly line and then having Briggs Manufacturing Company change the roofline and trunk lid. Briggs converted the once sedan into a full station wagon. These cars have steel supports at the "B" and "D" pillars and as a result the wood had little structural function making this one of the first steel station wagons. Finished in it's original Packard Ivory color with completely restored wood, this 1950 Packard Woodie Wagon has received an extensive cosmetic restoration. The wood was professionally restored and refinished to showroom condition. The chrome and bright metal are in show condition including the "Goddess of Speed" hood ornament. All aspects of the drivetrain have been serviced and rebuilt where necessary. The original Packard 288 cubic inch straight eight runs smoothly and the three-speed transmission shifts quietly and precise. Full bumperettes front and rear, sun visor, twin mirrors and a spotlight add to the fifties flavor. This car has been fitted with Vintage brand air conditioning and wide whitewall radial tires which greatly enhance the drivability of the automobile. This woodie wagon also comes with a 1957 Penn Yan Aristocrat mahogany boat and color-matching "Tee-Nee" trailer. The Aristocrat Runabout, with it's painted red hull, is fully equipped with a period Mercury outboard motor, wooden water skis and other period boating accessories. While the boat has not been fully restored, it has had a good amount of cosmetic refinishing and shows well. This stunning "PACKARD PACKAGE" is truly a recreational "time capsule" from the fifties!
