1963 CHEVROLET CORVETTE STINGRAY, "Three and one half years ago, when I graduated from nursing school, I promised myself that my first new car would be a Corvette?? so starts the letter which Mary T. Stuart wrote to S.E. Knudsen, renowned General Manager of Chevrolet Motor Division, on April 3, 1963. This letter along with its reply, the original customer invoice, order sheet, option list, owner?s manual, copy of original New Jersey Certificate of ownership and a thick folder of receipts and history accompany this time-capsule-like original car. Even the original spare tire and wheel are unused and remain in place. Finished in white with black interior and both white tops, the car is absolutely remarkable to drive and observe. When Mary passed away in 1994, she willed the car, then with 53,400 miles, to its only other owner and driver who purchased ?MARYS? license plates for the car (still on the car). He kept the car just as had Mary and drove it fewer than 3,000 very careful miles in his 14 years of ownership. Ordered with the 300 horsepower, 327 cubic inch V-8 engine with Power Glide transmission, Positraction, power steering, AM-FM radio with power antenna, white sidewall tires, the detachable hard top (matching the convertible top) and a full undercoat . This is not only a prime example of the introductory year of one of America?s best automotive efforts, but is also a remarkable piece of American automotive history, now with a total of 56,210 documented miles. MARY?S CAR awaits the next chapter of its pampered life.
