1956 AUSTIN-HEALEY 100M LEMANS, 1956 Austin Healey 100M LeMans. In 1953 Austin-Healey entered 2 very modestly modified cars for the 24 Hrs. of LeMans. They managed a top speed of 119mph on the Mulsanne Straight and finished 12th and 14th overall. This was a extraordinary performance for basically unaltered mass produced cars. To take advantage of the publicity generated by the LeMans performance Donald Healey devised a bolt-on tuning kit which he called oLeManso. The kit was available from any dealership. The oLeManso Modification Kit consisted of a pair of 1 ?o HD6 SU carburetors mounted on a special manifold, a high lift cam, stronger valve springs, a steel faced cylinder head gasket, a special distributor and a cold air box. On the cold air box was a brass plate mounted proclaiming oThis car has been fitted with a LeMans Modification Kito. The 100M however had this kit as standard equipment. Besides the kit is also sported a stiffer anti-roll bar and 8.1:1 compression pistons. The engine delivered 110bhp. On the outside the main feature was a louvered bonnet with a leather strap. The car we present here is one of 640 100Ms built by the factory. This is a genuine 100 LeMans which was totally restored by world famous Fourintune in Cedarburg, WI in 1994. Fourintune also converted the brake system to front disc brakes. The 100M bares its original Green and Ivory White paint scheme with Black interior and Black soft top. A non-original aluminum radiator with an electric fan was installed. The car was built March 3rd 1956, but is registered as a 1955. This car is eligible for the majority of American and European classic car events.
