The mark of a true craftsman is how invisible he can make his work and nowhere is that more evident than on this 1956 Chevy Bel Air. Despite its extensive body mods the car remains instantly recognizable and given the quality of the workmanship you'd need a stock one parked next to it to find all the tricks. At first glance this looks like your average '56 Chevy right? Get a little closer however and you start to notice a lot of little tweaks the most obvious being the dramatically restyled quarter panels. Borrowing taillights from a mid-50s Packard the Chevy's rear end has been lengthened and smoothed to create an entirely new look. The changes are seamless and work well with the other details like shaved door handles and hood ornament and a smooth deck lid. Choosing a factory color combination like India Ivory over Matador Red helps with the illusion and the gorgeous Bel Air side trim remains intact to give it some extra pizzazz. Fit and finish is quite good and despite being built in the early 2000s it's holding up quite well with only a few signs of age. Traditional pinstripes dummy spotlights bubble fender skirts and lake pipes give it a traditional '50s look and all the shiny stuff has been expertly polished or re-chromed to give it a very ornate appearance. The interior keeps things pretty stock which is a wonderful contrast to the bodywork. Plastic covers have protected the OEM-style upholstery since it was completed so it's in excellent shape. Beautifully fitted carpets and a color-matched dashboard provide plenty of bright red contrast and you know how much we love seeing a 4-speed Hurst shifter sticking out of the transmission tunnel. The gauges were rebuilt and look great through the spokes of the later Impala steering wheel and a Vintage Air A/C system has been very neatly installed under the dash. An AM/FM stereo radio was dropped into the dash and as with the exterior anything that was shiny received a professional polish to look its best. Even the trunk is masterfully upholstered with plush red carpets and a custom vinyl spare tire cover to keep things neat. Small block Chevy power is a given and the 350 cubic inch V8 under the hood is both reliable and powerful to make this a fantastic driver. A bunch of chrome including a triangular air cleaner and brightly polished accessories gives it just enough flash to be worthy of the bodywork and you can't argue with how well it runs. Chevy Orange paint helps with the traditional vibe this car gives off and with that 4-speed it's just a blast to drive. Upgrades include power rack-and-pinion steering front disc brakes a custom dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers and a suspension that's been lowered enough to give it that lowrider look. The underside isn't as detailed as the rest of the car but that also means that you can drive it anywhere without worrying about getting your chassis dirty. Painted steel wheels with hubcaps further blur the line between stock and custom and wear smooth-riding 205/75/15 wide whitewall radials. Skillfully blending restoration and custom work isn't easy but this awesome Bel Air delivers in every regard making it a very special machine indeed. Call today!
